Grandma Birdie has one of those Christmas Season birthdays. I grew up knowing you did not combine it or forget it because of the holiday shuffle. The only year she did get a bit more forgotten was the year Nicolas was born and we got out of the hospital on her birthday. But of all years I have known that this was a year we were to party hard for mom! She was turning 65!
Life might have taken that "retirement" party and made it happen a bit early. But there was no chance we were not going to make this as much fun as we could!
Everyone turned out. Family! Friends! Grandkids even! She really was enjoying every single person that brightened that winter cold night. Can you tell?

You guys made her smile!

Aged to Perfection was her theme. Here is the cake I created for her. Cake basket with a wine bottle made of fondant and ... rice krispies! Yep. Totally edible! Okay, the foil around the bottle was from a truffle I was just forced to eat so I could use the foil. Oh... the label is a printout of the party invitation that my brother designed for us. It was made to look like a wine label. He is so great!
Nicolas has fun with his cousin Kai and his other cousins peak in for the photo op... Hi Evander, Corwin and Erik!
