Grandma Ages Gracefully!

Grandma Birdie has one of those Christmas Season birthdays. I grew up knowing you did not combine it or forget it because of the holiday shuffle. The only year she did get a bit more forgotten was the year Nicolas was born and we got out of the hospital on her birthday. But of all years I have known that this was a year we were to party hard for mom! She was turning 65!

Life might have taken that "retirement" party and made it happen a bit early. But there was no chance we were not going to make this as much fun as we could!

Everyone turned out. Family! Friends! Grandkids even! She really was enjoying every single person that brightened that winter cold night. Can you tell?

You guys made her smile!

Aged to Perfection was her theme. Here is the cake I created for her. Cake basket with a wine bottle made of fondant and ... rice krispies! Yep. Totally edible! Okay, the foil around the bottle was from a truffle I was just forced to eat so I could use the foil. Oh... the label is a printout of the party invitation that my brother designed for us. It was made to look like a wine label. He is so great!

Nicolas has fun with his cousin Kai and his other cousins peak in for the photo op... Hi Evander, Corwin and Erik!

Lexi shares her play doh creation with Grandma. What beautiful smiles!

Happy birthday, Mom!

Happy 2010!!!

This was a fun New Years Eve! We were invited over to friends house for a fun family New Years. I cannot believe the kids lasted as long as we did. And um... it was pretty late!

But then again why wouldn't they. They were having fun!
They got noise makers! They got sparkling cider in champagne glasses. Oh Lexi loved that!
They got to stay up late, watch TV shows in the pj's!

And they got to set off pop bottles inside the house! Angie and Dave, you guys are so brave!

I love this photo. It shows so much. Nicolas wanted to do it but hates the noise. So I had to hold his ears while he popped the bottle. And then look at Lexi's face. She wanted nothing to do with them... but yet would not leave the basement and go upstairs where the adults all were.

If the 2010 is half as fun as the evening was then I am excited to be part of it!
